Volunteer Opportunities

Tutoring – One student leaves class or stays before/after class to work one-on-one with a tutor in a specific area of need – writing, math, reading, conversation, pronunciation, literacy, spelling, etc.

Small Group – Two to five students leave class or stay before/after class to work in a small group with a volunteer in a specific area of need.

Reading-Partner – Volunteer spends time reading to a student and also listening to the student read to them.  (Almost anytime M-Th or Friday morning will work.)

In-Class Support – A volunteer works in the classroom under the direction of the teacher, assisting with group work, writing, or other activities.  This usually involves circulating to different tables working with all the students in the class.

Math Teacher/Tutor – Help co-teach a math class or just assist in a class.  Levels range from very beginning to GED/college preparation.  Most students are in need of the very basic level class, so most math volunteers need only know very basic math.

Computer Lab Support – A volunteer works in the computer lab under the guidance of a teacher to assist students with in-class internet or software assignments, keyboarding, or word processing.  Volunteers may also assist or lead basic computer skills classes (12-1 Tu, W or 4:15-5:15, W-Th or more times if there are volunteers available.)

Workshops – Volunteer(s) provide an interactive opportunity for students to learn about a certain topic or to practice something in more detail.  (For example resume writing, pronunciation, economical shopping, etc)

Administrative Support – Assist with office tasks such as record keeping, student intake procedures, audio tape dubbing and other assorted projects.
